Sergei strode in to the Callidus common room. His eyes flicked from one corner of the room to the next, taking a quick survey of the place. It looked more like a study than a common room, as uncounted piles of books lay neatly stacked throughout the room. Couches were put here and there, to provide an ideal place to learn and relax at the same time. A stack of parchment lay on one table to provide students with paper to do homework, if they needed it.
Sergei sat down on a couch and opened a book. It was a book on transfiguration. Scribbled on the pages were polymorph spells, notes explaining the Midas touch, and other notes of alchemic nature. Sergei found nothing of interest in it, so he closed it and put it down. He decided to find something more interesting.
He found a book on runic magic. A the sight, Sergei smiled. This was his strongsuit, his best subject. He took some parchment and a quill, and began taking notes as to which rune was used for what.
When he was finished, he took out his wand and a rune from a pouch on his waist. Putting the rune in front of him, he concentrated, clearing distracting thoughts from his mind. Leveling his wand in line with the rune, he sharply spoke a word of command.
"BALSUFUS!"
The result didn't go as expected. When he spoke the word, the rune sparked for a moment, then burst into pieces. The remains were little more than smoking shards, now. Sergei sighed. He couldn't get it right all the time, he knew. Mistakes had to be made at one time or another. What the rune was supposed to do was surround itself with brilliant light, acting as a small light source ideal for desk use at night.
He'd just have to try again.
